Lucky or Blessed? By Erica As some of you may know, I had a very rough time when I was born. Basically, my mother’s antibodies in her blood were trying to kill me. The doctors said that the situation didn’t look positive and my chances of survival were very slim. My family didn’t believe the doctor’s diagnosis and knew God could make a way when there seemed to be no way. I was born a month and a half early, and I had to be rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as soon as possible. I weighed only 5 lbs and I had to receive three units of blood. My heart quit beating several times, but I wouldn’t give up the fight. My family and my church prayed continuously for my health and God came through for me. At only two weeks old, I was healthy enough to come home from the hospital. The doctors said they had never seen a baby that was as sick as I was survive. My parents have told me this story time and time again, and every time I hear it, I know God was watching out for me. When people tell me “You are so lucky,” I do not see it that way. I know that God has a plan for me because he gave me a second chance. I know I am blessed and God has his hand upon my life. I am just living proof that God does answer prayer and if you have faith, He can move mountains. So, next time something good happens to you, ask yourself… “Am I lucky or blessed?”
