The Heart of Worship

Kendall H.

“I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about you, it’s all about you, Jesus. ”Most of you probably recognize the lyrics above from a song we sing regularly in youth group on Wednesday nights, but do we really understand what it means? A heart of worship is when you totally and completely give yourself over to God. It is when you are willing to give up your will for His Will for your life. A heart of worship is when you feel in the presence of God. Having a heart of worship is surrendering to God fully. When you have a heart of worship, you give praises and offerings, AND ultimately YOURSELF to God, not because you feel like that’s what you are supposed to be doing but because that is what you want more than anything else. When you have a heart of worship and have entirely surrendered your whole life to God, amazing things can start to happen.

Game Night in the Family Life Center

Chelsea H.

A few Saturday nights ago we had a game night in the family life center gym. It was an exciting night and we had lots of fun. We played dodge ball and kickball for a few hours. We also ate lots of pizza. We finished the night off with a GREAT game of “hide and seek.” We had a really good time and it was a wonderful bonding experience for everyone that attended.

The Lord, My Savior

Personal testimony of Charlie P.

“The Lord is great!” Before I was saved I would hear that all the time and think, “Yeah right. If the Lord is so great then why does my life stink so much?” Then after I got saved the devil threw me a curve ball and I started hating everything again. Then I started going to church, AGAIN. And then I REALLY realized this time that the Lord IS truly GREAT!

Six Hours One Friday

Max Lucado

“Surely, this man is the Son of God.” To the casual observer there was nothing unusual about those six hours. To the casual observer, this Friday was a normal Friday. Six hours of routine. Six hours of the expected. Six hours, one Friday. But to a handful of witnesses the most maddening of miracles is occurring. Three bodies are bolted to three crosses. And one of the bodies is God. What do you do with that day in history? What do you do with its claims? If it really happened..(and it did)....if God did commandeer his own crucifixion, (and He did) then those six hours are packed with triumph. For it was in those six hours that God gave us three anchor points sturdy enough to withstand any hurricane life may send us. Because of the cross you and I can know that: Our lives are not futile… Our failures are not fatal… Our deaths are not final…

This section of the newsletter is taken from the book Six Hours One Friday written by Max Lucado.

The book can be checked out of the Red Room. See Bro. Jeremy to check out this book. This book can also be purchased at most bookstores such as Barnes and Noble or Books-A-Million.

Godly Exercise

Read: 1 Timothy 4:6-16

Exercise yourself toward godliness. —1 Timothy 4:7

Bible In One Year: Psalm 70-72

Fitness advocate Jhannie Tolbert says you don't need a treadmill or specialized equipment to get a great physical workout at home. Tolbert uses a toolbox for stepping exercises, lifts soup cans to work his shoulder muscles, and employs other common household items in his daily training. He says you can stay fit at home using a low-tech approach. Other trainers agree and encourage people to use jump ropes, chairs, brooms, and even bags of groceries in conditioning routines. They see exercise as a matter of will, not wealth.

The same principle holds true with spiritual fitness. While Bible dictionaries, commentaries, and other books are helpful, we can begin spiritual training with nothing more than the Bible and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Paul urged his protégé Timothy: "Exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come" (1 Timothy 4:7-8).

It requires no money to study a Bible passage or memorize a verse. We don't need special equipment or materials to pray for a friend, give thanks to God, or sing His praise. We just need to begin where we are, with what we have, right now. —David McCasland

Just as the body will grow strong
With exercise each day,
So too, we grow more like our Lord
By living life His way.
—D. De Haan

Godly exercise is the key to godly character.
